TrueScope Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2026

Overview

TrueScope is a Chrome extension designed to help you fact-check news articles and political claims directly in your browser. By analyzing selected text, our extension provides credibility assessments and evidence-based insights to help you identify potential bias and verify claims. This privacy policy outlines what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your privacy.

Data We Collect

User-Selected Text: When you use the "Analyze with TrueScope" context menu, we collect the text you select in your browser.

Local Settings: We store your configuration preferences (maximum evidence count, source preferences) in Chrome's local storage on your device only.

How We Use Your Data

Selected text is sent to TrueScope's analysis backend to generate bias detection, credibility scores, and supporting evidence.

We do not use your data for any purpose other than providing this analysis service.

Data Storage

On Your Device: Your local settings are stored only in Chrome's local storage and never leave your computer.

On Our Server: Analyzed text is processed in real-time and is not retained or saved after analysis. We do not store, sell, or share your data with third parties.

Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, or disclose your data to any third parties except as necessary to operate our analysis backend.

Your Rights

Since we do not retain analyzed text, there is no data to request deletion of. Your local settings can be cleared by uninstalling the extension or clearing Chrome's local storage.

You can uninstall the extension at any time to stop data collection.
